Dry savannah

e.g., southern Central Africa, Miombo woods

The dry savannah forms the transition between thorn savannah and wet savannah with five to seven humid months per year. The average annual  precipitation is only 500 - 1,200 mm. Enormous grasslands grow here, as well as acacia forests and Baobab trees,. Their wood can store large quantities of water. The green Miombo woods are located on 900 to 1,500 m high plateaus in southern Central Africa between the Lualaba and the Sambezi, between East Angola and Central Tanzania over an area of approximately 1,000 km times 1,000 km. The trees reach a height of 10 to 12 m.
