Ferlo

The Ferlo is a desert in the West African country of Senegal. It is located south of the Senegal Basin in the north of Senegal and covers 70,000 km², it is part of the Sahel zone. The Ferlo has scarce vegetation and covers about a third of the total area of Senegal.

The area is called after the river that has the same name. During the dry season, the length of its riverbed decreases to half of its 500 km. The landscape is shaped by endless plains, sand dunes, rocks and small basins with loamy soil in which water holes are built.

The annual amount of precipitation is indicated with 300 mm.
